Welcome, Sagehen Families!

Dear Class of 2024 Families,

On behalf of the Parents Leadership Council (PLC), we welcome you to Pomona College!

As Pomona parents who sent their son to Pomona four years ago, we know what an exciting time this is for you and your student. Their acceptance into Pomona is a remarkable achievement, and we are here to help navigate through these uncertain and unprecedented times together. We want you to know that the PLC is committed to ensuring that all Pomona students will have the support and resources to continue on the path of success.

Our son recently completed his senior year at Pomona, and we look forward to celebrating his accomplishments at Commencement in the fall. We remain grateful for how well Pomona prepared him to begin his career, as well as for the many friendships and connections we’ve made with fellow parents, faculty and administrators, too.

Now more than ever, it is important for Pomona parents to form a mutual support system as valued partners of the Sagehen community. As co-chairs of the Parents Leadership Council (PLC), we lead a group of highly engaged Pomona parents from around the globe who support the College in preparing the leaders, innovators, creators and problem solvers of tomorrow. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of excellence for our students by providing the College with vital volunteer and financial support for scholarships, research, internship opportunities, and so many more transformative experiences across campus.

During the month of July, you will receive a phone call or email from a PLC member to personally welcome you into the Sagehen community and to help you navigate the process of being a Pomona parent. Please feel free to ask any questions to the PLC member who reaches out. If your question can’t be answered, you will be referred to a member of the parent engagement team for further help.

In addition to outreach from the PLC, there are other ways you can receive important, up-to-date information about the College. You can expect regular campus and community updates from Pomona online and, less frequently, by mail. We also invite you to join the very active and engaged Pomona College Parents and Families Facebook page.

And lastly, your student will soon receive information from the College about when the school year will begin and what to expect once school starts. One important way Pomona provides a foundation for its students’ lives at the College is through the Sponsor Program, where a small group of first-year students are matched with two or three second-year students to guide them through college life, answer questions and create opportunities for social interactions across campus.

Remember, while your student may only spend four years here in Claremont, you and your family will be linked to the Sagehen community throughout your lives. We encourage you to take advantage of the many opportunities to meet and engage with fellow parents, students, faculty and staff from around the globe.

Once again, we are honored to welcome you to Pomona and look forward to meeting when the time comes!

Warm regards,

Beth Abrams & Stuart Senator P' 20
