We're excited to announce our “Dive into Drawing,” a summer workshop series designed by our community arts engagement intern Nina Owen ’25. Developed to dovetail with our two drawings-focused exhibitions Infinity on Paper and 500 Years of Italian Drawings, we’re offering four artist-led workshops in May and June that feature hands-on explorations of media, creative experiments, and technical instruction, all in the context of the rich history of the medium. Thursday, May 30th, 6–8pm: Rebecca Ustrell
Rebecca will create a dynamic honeycomb structure that will reshape your drawing ideas into a three-dimensional sculpture.
Thursday, June 6th, 6–8pm: Katie Dinh (Filled)
How do lines create a story? Katie’s workshop will explore drawing and printmaking techniques related to the exhibition Infinity on Paper. After learning about and experimenting with trace monotype, participants will create a series of contour-based drawings based on provided objects.
Thursday, June 13th, 6–8pm: Em Hagen (Filled)
In their workshop, Em will lead the group through a variety of drawing exercises and games aimed at tapping into your naturally creative inner child. Break free of rules and rediscover a sense of play!
Thursday, June 20th, 6–8pm: Lauren Verdugo
Portrait without People: This workshop will teach you how to use freehand drawing to create a chair that represents a person portrayed in a photograph. By using principles such as line, shape, value, texture, perspective, and composition, you'll create chairs that embody the essence of a person without the pressure of drawing their visual likeness.
