The Benton Museum of Art and Curious Publishing present Over Here Zine Fest on Saturday, November 9, 2024 from 11 am–7:30 pm. The festival will take place at the Benton Museum of Art at Pomona College located at 120 W Bonita Ave, Claremont, CA 91711.
Over Here Zine Fest features 30 exhibitors whose practice emphasizes the art of print in formats such as zines, art books, lithographs, risograph, screen printing, block printing, photography and more. This event is free and open to the public and will include artist talks and workshops throughout the day. This unique experience aims to celebrate and support independent writers, artists and creators, allowing them to share their work with an ever-growing audience through unique pop-up exhibitions, demonstrations, and programs.
A zine fest is a celebration of independent publishers whose practice emphasizes the art of print using unique paper formats. “Zine” (pronounced “zeen”) is short for magazine. These hand-made self-published works contain unique content and perspectives not often found in the mainstream media. They are usually short-run and often combine a mix of hand-drawn and graphically designed elements using typewriters, design software, collage techniques and xerox machines. These small volumes are often bound by staples, thread or complex book binding techniques. A true celebration of expression via paper, zine fests are a cultural melting pot hyper focused on spreading unique social perspectives.
As a teaching museum, the Benton Museum of Art cultivates rigorous collaboration with the Pomona College community to create compelling and innovative art experiences within a welcoming environment.
Curious Publishing is Non-Profit 501(c)3 Organization, and is 100% artist owned and operated since 2017. We tell the stories of artists of all practices who reside throughout San Bernardino, Los Angeles, and the High Desert Communities through one of a kind, small-run artbooks designed and printed in Southern California. We aim to celebrate the rich diaspora of the Inland Empire, Womxn, BIPOC and Queer Artists first and foremost.
Application submissions for exhibitors are due by September 30th. Please submit using this form. All applicants will be notified of their acceptance status by October 7th.
