We’re excited to announce our summer artist-led workshop series, “Conversing Through Line,” designed by our community arts engagement intern Emily Stoutjesdyk ’25. Inspired by the current exhibitions (on view through June 29), each workshop will explore connections between visual art and the written word.
Artist Madeline Helland (Scripps ’18) will help you create your own monoprints—turning text into art and art into text—using a letterpress, inspired by Doubles: Prints and Drawings from the Collections of the Benton Museum of Art and Ian White.
Madeline Helland is a Los Angeles based printer and illustrator who has been self-publishing artist books and zines under the moniker Aviatrix Press since 2018. She utilizes traditional bookbinding, letterpress, and Risograph to create printed materials that she distributes at zine fests and book fairs across Southern California. In addition to her art practice, she works as a studio technician at Otis College of Art & Design’s Laboratory Press.
The workshops are $20 each, with some materials provided. Space is limited so sign up now!
