Objects from the Benton’s collection not currently on display can be brought out from museum storage for visiting classes and groups. These “study days” or salon-style gatherings should also be arranged with the academic curator Solomon Salim Moore at salim.moore@pomona.edu.
The Benton’s full collection is online—search the collection. We invite faculty and students to explore the collection and note artworks of interest. Every object entry includes an identifying number called an “accession number” that begins with the letter P. Please refer to these numbers when discussing ideas for a Study Room visit with the academic curator.
Functioning as both classroom and temporary gallery, the Michael Mattis and Judy Hochberg Works on Paper Study Room and the Native American Collections Study Room provide an opportunity for close examination of original works of art in the Pomona College Collection without the barriers normally needed for public display.
Both classrooms are fitted with smart classroom technology (HDMI connected projector and close focus document camera) allowing for digitally illustrated lectures simultaneous to in-person contact with selections from the College’s collection.
For faculty-led class visits, please include:
- 1. Name, 2. School Affiliation, 3. Class Title, 4. Phone Number, and 5. Total Number of Students in the Class.
- Date that you would like to view the objects. Please have alternate date(s) available.
- List of works you would like to view by providing accession number(s) of up to 10 selected work(s) as a vertical list without bullet points or line breaks.
