Arriving on Campus

When and where does move-in day start?

Registration opens at 8 a.m., Sunday, August 23, 2020, in the South Campus parking structure and then outside Sumner Hall.

What do we need to do first?

Park in our South Campus Parking Structure and walk to the check-in station on the second level of the garage. Here, Residence Life staff members will provide you with more information and a color-coded unloading parking assignment. You'll also receive your room key, mailbox key and all check-in materials, including information on residence hall policies, emergency information, campus resource information, and information from Housekeeping. Since you've already submitted your ID picture online (through the Portal), you'll receive your Pomona College ID card at this time. Please note that the student must pick up their ID cards and keys, not a relative or guest.

Tell me more about this ID...

Your new Pomona College ID card is good for four years, and will give you access to the residence halls, the mail room, the computer center and various other buildings on campus. It will be your meal card, library card, and if you add Claremont Cash, it can be used for laundry or purchases at the Coop StoreHuntley Bookstore or participating businesses in the area that accept Claremont Cash.

Where do I go if I'm arriving by public transportation, taxi, or shuttle?

Proceed directly to the check-in tables in front of Sumner Hall.

My family is coming with me. Are there any hotels nearby?

Please view our Visiting section for information on local hotels, airports and public transportation.

What should I bring in terms of paperwork?

Please note that documentation of completion of all immunizations will be required BEFORE students receive their residence hall room key.

Moving In

So when do I move in?

After you’ve checked in, you can return to your vehicle, park and unload in your designated area, and then park again at the South Campus Parking Garage. There is no long-term parking available outside of the residence halls because everyone needs a chance to move their items into their new room.

How do I find help?

Look for our Pomona College Welcome Team. They'll be wearing bright shirts with the phrase "Ask Me!" on the back.

Where do I park to unload?

Your color-coded parking assignment will be given to you in the South Campus Parking Garage, and the location depends on where your residence hall is located. All drop-off zones are along College Avenue or Bonita Avenue.

How much time do we have to unload?

You’ll have about 10 minutes to unload your belongings onto the sidewalk. Return your car to the South Campus Parking Garage. We’ll have staff along Bonita and College to watch your belongings while you park and then to help you move into the residence hall.

May I ship my belongings to the College before Move-In Day?

Yes, the College will accept packages starting Monday, August 12, 2019 (2020 date TBD). Packages received before then will be returned to the sender.  You will receive your mailbox number in July. Where can I buy things I need for my room?

On campus, you can buy gently used furniture, room décor, and other items at the "Re-Coop" sale. The "Re-Coop" gathers items left in residence halls at the end of the spring semester to sell to you in the fall in an effort to reuse items and minimize our contribution to landfills.

Huntley Bookstore has technology and office supplies. And if you check in early, you may have time in the morning to go out with your family to pick up supplies, extra storage containers or anything else you might need; there is also some free time from 4 - 5 p.m. for last-minute shopping trips. Local stores within about three miles include the Montclair Place mall, Target (Montclair or La Verne), 99 Cents Only Store (Montclair), Office Depot (La Verne), Staples (Upland), Vons groceries, Super King, Trader Joe's and Sprouts (Claremont), Dollar Tree (Claremont) Wal Mart (Upland) and Walgreens pharmacy (Upland or Pomona).

A Bed, Bath and Beyond pop-up store will be on site near the check-in area.
