Take a trip back in time to Medieval Europe with a series of modernized mystery plays directed by performer, author and director Giovanni Ortega. Mystery plays, a form of performance that reached its height in the 15th century, are short but spectacle-filled plays about a variety of religious topics. With titles such as Creation, Temptation, Noah, and Second Shepherd's Play, these chaste yet bawdy, witty yet moving plays promise to inspire and amuse.
Director Ortega has worked around the country directing, acting, speaking and writing for over 10 years. He authored Leaves from Silverlake Barrio (2012), a collection of prose poetry, and is known for his work on Mystery of the Maya (1995), Yellow Face (2013) and Ray of Sunshine (2006).
The plays will be performed at Pomona College on Thurs., April 10 through Sat., April 12 at 8 p.m., and Sat., April 12, and Sun., April 13 at 2 p.m., in Allen Studio Theatre (300 East Bonita Avenue, Claremont).
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students, staff, and seniors. The box office is open Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, contact: (909) 607-3181 or email@example.com.
