Robin Thompson ’02 has been named Pomona College’s next director of financial aid. She currently works next door as the director of financial aid at Pitzer College, a position she has held since 2012.
With 12 years working in this field, Thompson brings wide-ranging experience working with students and families, and in managing state and federal financial aid programs and regulations. She also has personal experience in this area, noting “I could not have attended Pomona without the generous financial aid that made my education and transformative college experiences possible.”
At Pitzer, Thompson oversees Pitzer’s annual financial aid budget of more than $20 million. There, Thompson developed and implemented a financial aid program for international students, was an elected representative to the staff council and served on the recent presidential transition committee, and on the standing study abroad and international programs committee.
As an alumna of Pomona, Thompson brings a deep understanding of the College and the Claremont Consortium. Thompson worked in the Pomona Office of Financial Aid from 2005 to 2010, working her way up to senior assistant director before moving to Occidental College as their associate director from 2010 to 2012.
“I look forward to collaborating with Robin in this important role,” says Pomona College Vice President and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Seth Allen. “Robin’s responsiveness and commitment to robust financial aid communication and counseling for students and families makes her a perfect leader for the Financial Aid Office at Pomona.”
“In addition to providing a first-rate liberal arts education, Pomona is committed to providing first-rate financial aid. Our ongoing pursuit is to support the best and brightest broadly, and with Robin joining us we will continue in that commitment,” says President David Oxtoby.
Thompson, who graduated from Pomona in 2002 as a European history major, says she is eager to return to campus in this new role.
“I am a hands-on director and am reminded daily, in my meetings with students and phone calls with parents, that we must be responsive and deliver consistent, clear, thoughtful service. Pomona’s financial aid program has a strong foundation and an enlightened philosophy surrounding access and affordability. I look forward to continuing in this tradition of excellence,” says Thompson.
Thompson will begin at the College May 1.
