Pomona College and ofo, the world’s original and largest dockless bike share company, have partnered to roll out ofo’s first college pilot program in California. The collaboration will benefit the Pomona College community as well as the other Claremont Colleges. To celebrate the launch of the partnership, all rides for students, faculty and staff are free for two weeks starting on February 21.

Students are looking for more ways to get around campus and the community. What makes ofo’s model different is that the bikes are unlocked via smartphone, shared among riders and can be parked at any Claremont Colleges bike rack. Pomona College Assistant Director of Sustainability Alexis Reyes sees these bikes as a key tool for the community.

“As a top performer in sustainability, Pomona, is always looking for ways to support opportunities for low or zero emission commuting,” says Reyes. “Adding ofo’s services to our resources available to our students, faculty and staff helps Pomona on its quest to become carbon neutral by 2030.”

"When I was a student I loved riding my bike around campus, it was the fastest way to get between classes and to my off-campus job,” says Chandra Morando, regional general manager at ofo. “But, with the cost of bikes, changing weather and the threat of bike theft, sometimes it just wasn’t an option. I want every student to have access to a high-quality bike when and where they need it. It’s a delight to partner with Pomona College.”

How it works

To get started, riders simply download the free ofo mobile app (available for both iOS and Android).

  • Find a bike: open the app and find all the bright yellow bikes around you
  • Tap and scan: when you're at the bike, tap "unlock" and scan the barcode to automatically unlock and enjoy the ride
  • Park and lock: at your destination, simply park your bike almost anywhere on campus at a bike rack and manually lock it to end the trip
