Ussachevsky Festival

The 26th annual Ussachevsky Memorial Festival of Electro Acoustic Music opens with a concert featuring contemporary ensemble, the Eclipse Quartet. Ensemble members include: Sara Parkins and Sarah Thornblade, violins; Zach Dellinger, viola; and Maggie Parkins*, cello. Joining the ensemble is Ko Umezaki, shakuhachi, in a program of music by Ian Dicke, Tom Flaherty, Zeena Parkins and others.

The festival is named after Vladimir Ussachevsky (1911-1990), Pomona ’35, who was a pioneer in the field of electronic music and co-founder of the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center in New York. He left a bequest to the college to support activities in the field of electronic music, which has funded much of the Music Department’s equipment and the founding of this series.

The festival continues on Saturday.
