Masks required indoors for everyone on campus starting July 17 (7/15/21)

Dear Pomona College Community,

This is an important update regarding new mask requirements for everyone on our campus and all of Los Angeles County as COVID-19 cases are once again rising in the region and nationwide.

Effective Saturday, July 17, face coverings are required for all people to wear in indoor public places – including at Pomona College – even if you have been fully vaccinated.

The new county public health officer order requiring indoor masks comes in response to rising cases driven by the delta variant, which spreads more easily than earlier variants.

The vast majority of cases in our county, and 99 percent of hospitalizations, involve people who are unvaccinated. While a small number of fully vaccinated people have become infected, full vaccination is highly effective at preventing serious cases, hospitalizations and deaths.

All of us can take action to help by getting fully vaccinated, wearing masks in indoor public places and following all public health protocols.

COVID-19 vaccinations are required for all students (with exemptions for documented medical reasons or sincerely held religious beliefs.)

All faculty and staff also will be required to receive the COVID-19 vaccination once the Food and Drug Administration provides full authorization of any one of the three vaccines currently being provided in the U.S. under the emergency use authorization. As it has for students, the College will consider exemptions for valid medical reasons and sincerely held religious beliefs.

Thank you for your continued assistance in following public health protocols. We will post additional details on the new mask requirement on our Pomona Safe web in coming days.

Sincerely,

Rob Goldberg
