Dear Pomona College Community,

As part of our ongoing efforts to create a safe and healthy campus climate and support survivors of sexual assault, Pomona College (as well as the other Claremont Colleges and dozens of colleges across the country) participated in the HEDS survey of sexual assault and campus climate in spring 2015. We are committed to learning from these survey results. Pomona’s findings can be found here (PDF) and aggregate finding for the Consortium can be found here (PDF).

I have included a letter from The Claremont Colleges Presidents Council highlighting consortium-wide findings. In addition, an FAQ about the survey can be found here.

We invite you to discuss these important Pomona College findings and have an opportunity to ask questions. The survey was very comprehensive and there are many findings to review. Forums are scheduled for November 12, from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m., and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Smith Campus Center 208.  They are open to all members of our community and will include presentations of survey findings and a question and answer period. Daren Mooko, Title IX Coordinator and Associate Dean, Miriam Feldblum, Dean of Students, and Jennifer Rachford, Director of Institutional Research, will host these meetings.

It is important to note that HEDS took great care in providing for students’ comfort, support and confidentiality in this survey effort, allowing students who have been sexually assaulted to share their experience in this survey without judgment or risk of further victimization. Students had access on every screen of the survey to links to information about campus, local and national resources for unwanted sexual contact, sexual assault and relationship violence.

Thank you to the many Pomona students who took time to participate in this important survey.
