Please note that all students are responsible for using their insurance to support their use of clinical services.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

What type of support does the Student Assistance Program offer?

Only a call or click away, you can confidentially talk about your situation to find resources and information on issues such as:

  • Academic stress and pressure

  • Personal relationships — family, friends, dating

  • Life coaching

  • Substance abuse and other addictions, such as gambling

  • Finances, like credit card debt and student loans

  • Depression, grief and general mental health

  • Body image and eating disorders

  • Childcare services

  • Divorce, custody, probation and other legal matters

Your first three sessions are free, and the resource is confidential.

How much does is cost to utilize SAP?

Your first three sessions are free through Aetna for students with or without SHIP. If you are not enrolled in SHIP, you will want to call your health insurance carrier and confirm if the provider you are seeing is a part of their network as there may be copays and/or other costs associated with your sessions after your first three free sessions.

How much would additional session(s) cost for students covered by SHIP?

All students (SHIP and non-SHIP) students should confirm that the SAP provider they choose is in-network with their health plan if they plan to continue seeing the provider after their first three free sessions. Most SAP providers are going to be in-network with Aetna Student Health as well, but there is a chance some may be out-of-network. If the provider is In-Network the co-pay cost is $20. If the provider is Out-of-Network the visit is not covered by SHIP.

For non-SHIP students, how much would additional session(s) cost?

If you decide to continue sessions after your first three free sessions and you are not enrolled in SHIP, not all insurance plans may be accepted by your SAP provider. Since non-SHIP students are not enrolled in the campus health plan we are unable to provide the specific cost-share associated with their visits after the first three free sessions.

All students should confirm that the provider they choose is in-network with their individual health insurance plan and should contact their health insurance plan to confirm what their cost(s) would be for visits associated with the provider they chose. We recommend the student to have a list of providers covered by their individual health insurance plan, and upon contacting the SAP to initiate services, the student can ask if their listed providers are in the SAP network. Should a non-SHIP student be connected with a provider that is not in their network, the student can request to transition to a provider that is in-network with their health plan.

Are in-person appointments available on Pomona's campus?

No, in-person visits would take place at the providers office. The students can contact SAP (1-877-351-7889) in order to get a list of providers that offer in-person visits in their area.
