Rocks Have Many Roles in New Studio Art Hall Courtyard
Rocks are Stars in Art Hall Courtyard

A series of sizeable rocks placed in the courtyard of the new Studio Art Hall will serve as instructional tools, artistic inspiration – and seating. The idea came from Art Professor Michael O’Malley and geology professors Bob Gaines and Jade Star Lackey. Original plans called for the placement of some generic granite stones, but O’Malley and Gaines, who are longtime friends, got to talking and imagined a more eclectic and varied arrangement of rocks as a way to enliven the building’s stark open spaces and inspire new ideas in artists.
