The Classics Department

The Department of Classics at the Claremont Colleges is an intercollegiate program, with faculty members from Pomona, Scripps, Claremont McKenna, and Pitzer.

Classics is the name traditionally given to the study of the languages, literature, art, archaeology, and culture of ancient Greece and Rome from the Bronze Age to the early Middle Ages.

The Department of Classics at the Claremont Colleges is an intercollegiate program, with faculty members from Pomona, Scripps, Claremont McKenna, and Pitzer. The breadth of study and resources available are thus much greater than normally found at small liberal arts colleges. The department offers a variety of fields and approaches to the ancient world, including philology, history, archeology, philosophy, literary criticism, and cultural studies.
