The Public Policy Analysis Program (PPA)

Spring Information Session

Thursday, April 12th - Information Session for potential PPA students (open to 5 C's) --- Carnegie Library @ 4 p.m.

Friday, April 20th - Senior Thesis Conference (PPA seniors give panel presentations about their research; open to 5 C's) --- Carnegie 109 @ 2 - 5 p.m.

The Program in Public Policy Analysis is one of Pomona College’s most distinctive majors. Usually reserved for graduate level study, this multi-disciplinary major melds education in a traditional academic field (such as economics or biology) with a core curriculum in policy analysis. It combines the broad and disciplined foundations of a liberal arts curriculum with the hands-on, problem-focused approach of policy studies. The Program in Public Policy Analysis seeks to provide a distinctive liberal education for leaders in our global society, who will face socially complex and ethically challenging issues and decisions.

The field of public policy analysis has emerged over the past few decades in response to the social need for inquiries and prescriptions which transcend the boundaries of traditional academic disciplines. The PPA program accomplishes this by offering a broad array of analytical techniques, a wide perspective on pressing social issues, and practical experience in the dynamics of policy-making organizations.

The program has 11 formal majors, but also welcomes students who design special majors to meet their unique academic interests. In addition to the Director and Associate Director the program is also supported by Departmental Faculty Liaisons.
