    Alaina Woo was named head coach of the Pomona-Pitzer women’s basketball program in 2020 after serving as interim head coach for the 2019-20 season.

    A former Sagehen player who holds the record for career three-pointers, as interim coach Woo led the Sagehens to a 15-11 overall record, 10-6 in SCIAC play. The program recorded a second consecutive winning season for the first time since 2002, earned a win over SCIAC rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at home for the first time since 2012 and had wins over seven of the eight conference schools.

    Woo began her coaching career at Tufts University as an assistant to Carla Berube, now at Princeton. During Woo’s season as an assistant, the team reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. She returned to Pomona-Pitzer as an assistant to Jill Pace, then the head coach, and was part of a historic year for the program. The Sagehens won their first conference tournament championship in program history, made their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2002, notched their first 20-win season since 1992 and won a program-record 14 conference games.     As a player, Woo was a four-year starter and two-year captain for the Sagehens. She ranks among the top 10 players in career scoring, with 1,093 points. As a senior, Woo led the conference in scoring with 16.7 points per game and was a first-team all-conference selection.

    Off the court, she held several national roles with the NCAA as a student. She served as chair of the NCAA’s Student-Athlete Engagement Committee and vice chair of the NCAA's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She also acted as the Division III student representative on the NCAA's Committee on Women’s Athletics and the NCAA's Commission to Combat Sexual Violence.
