Claudia Alegre

Claudia Alegre is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Politics at Pomona College, where she teaches courses in Latino Politics, Political Psychology, and Introduction to American Politics. She received her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2026.

Her research sits at the intersection of political psychology and Latino politics, with a focus on how emotions shape political behavior among racially marginalized groups in the United States. Her dissertation, "The Impact of Threat and Anxiety on Latino Political Behavior," develops a Racialized Group Anxiety framework to examine how anxiety appraised as collective, rather than individual, threat mobilizes pro-group political participation among Latinos, with effects moderated by pan-ethnic identification.

Beyond her dissertation, her research agenda extends to the political psychology of extremist ideologies, including an ongoing project on incel ideology and political behavior. Her work draws on experimental and survey methods, and her research has appeared on panels at the American Political Science Association, among other venues.
