    Stephen Klein has been an active freelance musician and teacher in Southern California since leaving the Air Force Band of the Golden West in 1978, where he was tuba soloist and principal arranger. He was a member of the 1984 Olympic Orchestra under John Williams and has performed with Frank Sinatra, Mel Tormé, on many TV and movie sound tracks, and with most of the major performing ensembles in Southern California.

    Recent premieres of his works by the Pomona College Band include "Fanfares for Bridges Hall" and his arrangements of Joseph Suk’s "Meditation on the St. Wenceslaus Chorale" and Gustav Holst's "Country Song."

    He performed a tuba concerto by Barbara York with the Pomona College Band in 2014 and also appeared as euphonium soloist with the Pomona College Orchestra in a transcription of Gounod's "Avant de quiter ce lieux’”

    In addition to teaching tuba and euphonium at Pomona College, he is also the associate director of the Pomona College Band where he coaches the brass section and performs with the ensemble. He also often appears on band concerts as a composer, arranger or soloist.

    He has also been on the faculty of Cerritos College and the California State University campuses in Long Beach and Fullerton where he taught music theory and orchestration as well as tuba and euphonium.
