Ahead of her first full academic and athletic year as Pomona-Pitzer athletic director, Danielle Lynch answers questions about the Sagehen community, philanthropy, holistic development and wellness, and the hallmarks of great athletic departments. 

What makes a community? How do communities sustain themselves? Why do communities matter? These are just some of the questions tackled recently by students during their Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) projects.  

In Pomona College Global Gateways classes, students studied movement in the history and the arts of the Weimar Republic during three weeks in Berlin, while others looked at issues surrounding diplomacty and human rights in Brussels and Morocco. 

The Table Mountain Observatory, or TMO, is Pomona College’s one-meter telescope built on a Jet Propulsion Laboratory facility near Wrightwood, California. In recent years, TMO has exploded onto the astronomy scene as a productive science machine.  

The Pomona College Board of Trustees has elected four new members: Justice Halim Dhanidina (Ret.) ’94, Robi Ganguly ’00, Cosimo H. J. Thawley ’11, and Bill Riley, parent of a 2026 graduate and recent chair of the College’s Family Leadership Council.

Former All-American Hannah Gough ’25 will don her native Australia’s colors in Tokyo as the Aussies go for gold at the 2026 World Lacrosse Women’s Championship. The premier 16-team tournament begins Friday, July 24, and ends Sunday, August 2.

The Summer Undergraduate Research Program is supporting projects of more than 200 Pomona students, including a history major exploring archives in Rome and an anthropology and English double major studying cultural preferences in Rio de Janeiro.
