Pomona College’s yearly Orientation Adventure lived up to its name for more than 400 new students who enjoyed various leisurely activities around Southern California before beginning the academic year at their new home.

Through an early Center for Global Engagement (CGE) initiative, Professor Pierre Englebert’s “Africa After the End of History” symposium and course will examine how the rest of the world now interacts with African nations.

Here are four students who benefited from the Pomona College Internship Program (PCIP) this summer and gained hands-on career experience in healthcare-related fields, thanks to generous PCIP stipends for multiweek unpaid or low-paid internships.

Move-In Day annually marks the start of a new school year, a celebratory milestone that always elicits a range of emotions from the parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and grandparents who played a part in getting their student to Sixth Street.

Mathematics major Ali Bennett ’27 was one of three students who completed a summer Pomona College Internship Program (PCIP) in an athletics field. Her apprenticeship with the San Francisco Seagulls Baseball Academy revealed a possible career path.

Elle Hawthorne ’29 spent a month on a research cruise to Hawai’i as a research assistant to Visiting Professor of Geology Maria Prokopenko, who is part of a team studying how nitrogen travels great distances to support life in ocean "deserts."

As the College continues to further strengthen equity and academic engagement, the Access to Course Essentials (ACE) program will distribute required materials—in digital or print form—on or before the first day of each semester.
