Prof. Omer Shah is spending his summer writing two chapters of his monograph on Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The Pomona cultural anthropologist has long been fascinated with exploring religious migration and movements such as the Hajj pilgrimage.

The four inaugural fellows spent six weeks this summer meeting with local civic leaders, community members and students to brainstorm ways to connect Claremont with the neighboring city of Pomona via the PCCEC.

In six weeks, 1-2-1 scholars learn about resources and programs at the College; meet department heads and faculty members; attend virtual office hours; and become comfortable working collaboratively.

Fourteen Pomona students were enrolled in Diplomacy and Human Rights in the Mediterranean, a full-credit seminar led this summer by Mietek Boduszynski, associate professor of politics and former U.S. diplomat. They studied in Belgium and Morocco.

Janet Inskeep Benton ’79 is the new chair of the Pomona College Board of Trustees. Her three-year term as leader of the 28-member board began July 1. She succeeds outgoing chair Sam Glick '04, who had led the board since 2015.
