Two Pomona College alumni have been elected as new members of the College’s 28-member Board of Trustees, with terms beginning July 1. Erika James ’91 is dean of the Wharton School of Business. Jason Sheasby ’97 is a law partner at Irell & Manella.

In August, Haile will embark on a transformative journey as a Schwarzman Scholar, pursuing a master’s degree in global affairs from Tsinghua University in Beijing.

Williams joins Pomona from New York University where he most recently served as associate vice president of undergraduate admissions.

The path to a career of service has been paved for Genevieve Krieger ’24. Earlier this year she was awarded the Payne International Development Graduate Fellowship. 

Four recent Pomona College alumni have spent the past year at the University of Cambridge pursuing graduate degrees, supported by scholarships that Pomona helped them obtain. They have been engaged in research as well as extracurricular life.

Each year, the Downing Scholarship funds two graduating seniors from Pomona to pursue a one-year master’s degree at Cambridge. Leo Alaghband ’24 and Zongqi Zhai ’24 have been selected to represent Pomona at Downing College this fall. 

The fellowship supports superlative students who are pursuing or planning to pursue full-time research-based master’s and doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) or in STEM education.

Daniel Gao ’25, a molecular biology major, has been awarded the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship, given to sophomores and juniors who show exceptional promise of becoming research leaders in science, engineering and mathematics.

Each year, Pomona recognizes a staff member for distinguished service or effort beyond what is required in their daily job. This year two staff members received the Distinguished Staff Award: Cynthia Madrigal and Joaquin Rios.
