The UN Climate Conference of the Parties brought 56,000 participants from around the world to Belém, Brazil, last month to negotiate action on the global climate crisis. Five Pomona students and two Pomona faculty members were among the attendees.
James Solomon ’06 will be the next mayor of Jersey City, New Jersey, after receiving 68% of the vote in Tuesday’s runoff election against the state’s former governor. The Pomona alumnus will lead New Jersey’s second-largest city.
As soon as Stephanie Granobles ’27 was accepted as a Posse Scholar her senior year of high school, she set her eyes on the Jeff Ubben Posse Fellowship, a highly selective fellowship that pairs five Posse Scholars each summer with an industry leader.
Pomona College welcomes 15 new faculty to tenure-track and tenured positions this fall. Six taught at the College previously, including an alumna. The other nine are newcomers.
PCIP has transformed summer break into a season of opportunity for students, providing them with stipends to pursue low-paid or unpaid internships. This summer, nearly 100 students benefited from the program.
Shark Mutulili, a public policy analysis major with a politics focus, has been awarded a Rhodes Scholarship. The Rhodes Scholarship is awarded to about 100 students each year, 32 from the United States and the rest from countries across the world.
This year, Draper Center staffers and student coordinators planned trips to Oakland, San Diego and San Francisco to serve and explore. Between the three groups, about two dozen students volunteered with organizations addressing pressing issues.
James Solomon ’06 developed a love for public service while majoring in public policy analysis at Pomona College. He has been a city councilman in Jersey City, New Jersey since 2017 and is now running for mayor.
Gilman Scholarships are helping to ease the financial burden of study abroad for several Pomona College students this spring semester. After their return, they will help other students plan to study abroad as well.
