When Ernesto Gutiérrez Topete ’17 received his Ph.D. this past summer, he became the first Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship alumnus from the Claremont Colleges to achieve that goal. He will be teaching phonetics at Pomona.
Pomona College has received a $1 million gift from the Fletcher Jones Foundation to support refugee students. The grant will establish a fund to ensure refugee students are able to lay the educational foundation for a new life.
Pomona will offer admission to 745 students who come from 50 U.S. states plus the District of Columbia, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and from 58 other countries.
