As 2023 comes to a close, we look back at some of the key moments and memories made possible by our Pomona College students, faculty and staff.

Southern California gifted us beautiful fall colors on campus this semester.

Summer undergraduate research is a staple at Pomona College. Ella Moriarty ’25 examined the effects of stress with neuroscience professor Jonathan King.

The campus enjoyed breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains as late as March this year.

Christian Lopez ’25 was one of the transfer students who entered Pomona this year. He joined the growing community of student veterans on campus.

Snow in the morning and sand in the afternoon. Students enjoyed the annual Ski-Beach Day where they were able partake in winter sports and a trip to the beach all in the same day.

Staff at Cafe47 ensured students, faculty and staff stayed well caffeinated through the academic year.

Numerous Sagehens returned to Claremont in the spring to reunite with former classmates, share moments with faculty and create new memories on campus.

Pomona faculty are constantly making discoveries through their research. Geology professor Jade Star Lackey’s research this year offered new history of the Rocky Mountains.

A severe windstorm downed trees along Stover Walk in 2022. Pomona’s grounds crew planted new trees in January 2023 to reforest the campus.

This year’s Payton Lecture welcomed Anita Hill and coincided with Family Weekend. An advocate for equality and civil rights, Hill shared a conversation with Professor Kyla Wazana Tompkins.

Gabi Stawski ’27 had an emotional farewell with her siblings during Move-In Day in August.

President G. Gabrielle Starr congratulated members of the Class of 2023.

Cecil Sagehen set a festive mood to welcome first-year and transfer students to Pomona on Move-In Day.

The Pomona College Community Engagement Center opened its doors in October in the Arts Colony in the city of Pomona.

Goat yoga was the GOAT destress event. The CARES Office sponsored the event for students as they ended the spring semester.

Pomona students had great energy on the first day of class in August.

Art met astronomy when Professor Jorge Moreno’s class visited the Hive in a collaborative art project telling the stories of galaxies through handmade branches and leaves.

Guests admired items from the personal collection of civil rights leader Myrlie Evers-Williams ’68, donated to her alma mater.
