The Writing Program
The Writing Program houses Pomona College's required Critical Inquiry seminars, also known as ID1. These topic-based courses, required of all first-years in the fall semester, introduce students to intellectual life at the college. With close attention from professors across disciplines and through deep engagement with their peers, students in ID1 establish essential practices in reading, writing, thinking, and speaking. These practices form the basis for students' studies both within their majors and in their broader liberal arts experiences.
The Center for Speaking, Writing, and the Image (CSWIM)
The Center for Speaking, Writing, and the Image (CSWIM) offers free, one-on-one consultations with CSWIM Partners to all students enrolled in Pomona College courses. CSWIM Partners are peer mentors who talk with students about writing, speaking, and multimodal communication projects and provide feedback at any stage, from brainstorming to outlining to preparing a final draft.
CSWIM Partners are trained to think deeply about communication, helping with everything from ID1 papers and lab reports to presentations and senior theses. They can also help students develop strategies for reading across genres and engaging more confidently in class discussion.

CSWIM Appointments & Walk-Ins
- The CSWIM is open for in-person consultations with CSWIM Partners Sunday–Friday.
- Schedule an appointment at pomona.mywconline.com. If this is your first time using our scheduler, you will need to register for an account.
- Walk-ins are always welcome when the CSWIM is open (see schedule below).
- CSWIM appointments are capped at 50 minutes.
