Departments interested in hosting an Exchange Visitor should consult the forms below and contact Oldenborg with any questions.
The Oldenborg Center for Modern Languages and International Relations administers the Exchange Visitor Program (J visa) for Pomona College. The J visa category is a non-immigrant visa category and the general purpose of the Exchange Visitor Program is to promote international educational and cultural exchange to develop mutual understanding between people of the U.S. and other countries.
At Pomona, there are three types of J-1 Exchange Visitors: students, scholars and professors, and specialists. The Certificate for Eligibility for a J visa is the DS-2019.
With this in mind, Oldenborg provides the following services to the Pomona College community:
- Advises international students, scholars, their dependents, and College departments on compliance with U.S. immigration laws and regulations related to J visa categories.
- Verifies, tracks, and submits visa status notifications through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), as required by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
- Processes DS-2019s, travel signatures, and letters needed for travel, employment, maintaining status, social security numbers, and other immigration related matters.
- Coordinates with International Place at The Claremont Colleges to provide additional resources and information for Exchange Visitors.
Note: International students at Pomona College most typically hold the F visa (not J). The international student advisor for F visa matters is Marilyn White, located in the Oldenborg Residence Building (behind Oldenborg Hall), Office 11.
