The Pomona Pre-Health Liaisons are a dynamic student-led group aimed to assist students interested in all Pre-Health careers. Our Liaisons serve as mentors to the Pre-Health track. They host events including medical school tours, de-stress events, pre-registration schedule planning, community-building events, and healthcare seminars. Anne is a senior and molecular biology major from Los Angeles, CA. On-campus, you can find her running between her roles as a Writing Partner, Pomona Science Scholars mentor, Introductory Biology teaching assistant, and Habesha Student Association president. She is inspired by the lives of her family members who were raised in the East African country of Eritrea. Anne has a keen interest in pursuing medical work in underserved regions of the world. As an aspiring physician-scientist, she hopes to pursue a career at the intersection of health-care disparities and infectious disease research. Outside of school, you can find Anne hiking, telling bad jokes, and trying new vegan recipes.
Annie is a senior majoring in Public Policy Analysis-Biology from Naperville, Illinois. She is a member of the varsity lacrosse team, works at the Outdoor Education Center and hangs out on Mt. Baldy doing ski patrol. Annie hopes to work in community health, specifically in maternal and child health, an obtain an MPH degree, with MD probably far down the line. She is interested in wilderness medicine, health care policy, family and community care, health data collection, and health in Spanish speaking populations. She's also interested in cooking shows, tiny desk concerts, skiing, and Jane Austen.
Annika is a senior and neuroscience major. On-campus, she is a trainer and member of the 5C debate team, the Community Partnerships Chairman of Pomona Employment Partners at the Draper Center, volunteers at homeless shelters in the city of Pomona, and she's a biochemistry lab TA. Annika studied cognitive neuroscience at Copenhagen, Denmark in her junior spring term and is very excited to share her experiences while living in Europe and understanding their healthcare system as well. Professionally, she is interested in becoming a physician and combining her interests in healthcare policy and health economics to help improve the accessibility and equity disparities within medicine.
Christabel is a junior born in Nigeria but raised in Miami, Florida. Her major is Chemistry, and she plans to minor in Theater. Christabel spends most of her time serving as a Resident Advisor, mentoring the general chemistry class and volunteering at Pomona Valley Hospital. She plans on pursuing an MD/MPH. Her passion for medicine is driven by her interest in healthcare and her passion for working with underserved populations. In her free time, Christabel enjoys writing and playing basketball.
Jacob is a rising Sophomore from Los Angeles, California, and a potential neuroscience major. He is a member of the men’s water polo team and a leader of the Claremont College’s EMS club. Jacob is a certified EMT and is working with his club to start a student-run on-campus EMS response team. He is pursuing an MD and is interested in pediatrics, emergency medicine, and psychiatry. His other interests include TV, sci-fi movies, and creative writing.
Ja'Nea is a junior Gender and Women’s Studies major at Pomona. She was born and raised in Alabama (#RollTide) by a family full of women. While growing up, she spent a tremendous amount of time with her grandmother, a former CNA, due to her mother's intense work hours. She became interested in the healthcare field from watching her grandmother tend to people in need and hearing stories about her grandmother's passion to care for others. She has become passionate about healthcare in the black community, especially Reproductive Justice. In addition to being a Pre-Health Liaison at Pomona, Ja'Nea is a QSC partner, Biology research assistant, and participates in service projects with the Draper Center. In her free time, you can catch her having intuitive discussions with her friends, reading, or watching reruns of Living Single and NCIS.
Jaime is a Junior from Dorado, Puerto Rico. At Pomona, he is a member and mentor of the Pomona Science Scholars cohort as well as a member of the Claremont Caballeros. He is a declared Molecular Biology major and is interested in pursuing an MD/Ph.D. to become a physician-scientist later on. Jaime is fascinated by the physician-scientist career as it consolidates all aspects of translational science for the betterment of human health. His other interests include watching movies (avid movie buff), sports like football (American) and football (international), and beaches (tropical).
Kofi is a Ghanaian born in America who was raised in Canada. He is a sophomore majoring in Molecular Biology and an aspiring French Minor. At Pomona, he is a Pre-Health liaison & mentor, works within the Negritto lab, a Pomona Science Scholar, a General Chemistry mentor, a part of the Pomona Black Student Union (BSU), and the Office of Black Student Affairs (OBSA). Some of the things that he enjoys the most is listening to music (which is such a wide range, but some of his favorites include RnB and AfroBeats), playing video games, and DANCING. In the future, Kofi hopes to attain an MD or MD/Ph.D. to become a cardiologist or cardiothoracic surgeon working somewhere in West Africa.
