Meeting in the Writing Center

The Writing Center at Pomona provides students with a community of experienced readers and writers, offering free, one-on-one consultations at any stage of the writing process—from generating a thesis and structuring an argument to fine-tuning a draft. Students may bring any writing project to the center, including academic essays from across the disciplines, lab reports, foreign language papers, creative writing, senior theses, fellowship statements, as well as resumes, cover letters, and C.V.s. Students can also bring speaking assignments, including oral presentations, poster talks, and leading class discussion. Last year, the Writing Center held more than 1600 consultations, working with more than 30% of the student body and 66% of the first-year class.

The Writing Center is centrally located on the ground floor Smith Campus Center Suite 148, across from the Mail Room and the Living Room.

During the academic year, the Writing Center is open for appointments Sundays through Thursdays in the afternoons and evenings. Students can make an appointment online, by logging into the portal and going to Academics > Writing Center. We also offer drop-in hours from 8-10pm on those days, with appointments on a first-come, first-served basis. Students can also stop by in the afternoons and early evening to see if there are appointments available.
