Current Book Selection: The Code Breaker: Jennifer Doudna, Gene Editing, and the Future of the Human Race by Walter Isaacson

Our next book club selection will feed your curiosity about gene editing and its moral quandaries. The Code Breaker: Jennifer Doudna, Gene Editing, and the Future of the Human Race by Walter Isaacson is a highly readable book that is accessible even to readers untrained in science. Isaacson, president and CEO of the Aspen Institute, is known for his vivid biographies of world-changing figures such as Leonardo da Vinci and Steve Jobs. Now, he turns his focus to Jennifer Doudna '85, the Nobel Prize-winning biochemist who pioneered work in CRISPR gene editing.

"Isaacson’s vivid account is a page-turning detective story and an indelible portrait of a revolutionary thinker who, as an adolescent in Hawai’i, was told that girls don’t do science. Nevertheless, she persisted." —O, The Oprah Magazine

Our reading period for The Code Breaker runs from Friday, October 14 – Friday, December 16.
