Curricular Practical Training (CPT)

Pomona College will authorize CPT for F-1 students only when the opportunity is a formal requirement of the student’s degree program and successful completion of the degree is contingent upon the CPT experience. What is CPT?

Curricular practical training (CPT) is defined to be alternative work/study, internship, cooperative education or any other type of required internship or practicum that is offered by sponsoring employers through cooperative agreements with the school. Students who have received one year or more of full time CPT are ineligible for post-completion optional practical training (OPT).

Eligibility for CPT

Students must meet the following eligibility requirements before applying.

  • Currently in active F-1 status.
  • Have been enrolled full-time for at least 1 academic year
  • Practical training/internship is required for all students in the student's major/degree, without which they cannot graduate.
  • Have received an offer for a training opportunity that is directly related to major.

Application Process

Student must:

  1. Complete Sections I-III of the CPT Authorization Request Form.
  2. Have Academic Advisor complete Section IV of the form.
  3. Email completed form and offer letter to iss@pomona.edu, CCing the Academic Advisor who completed Section IV.
