“One trait you’ll see among Pomona students is that whatever they do, they do it in an original way,” says Sebastian Fish Mathurin ’26
“I see the same sparkle in the eyes of alumni: the passion, the drive, but also the curiosity and the ability to remain a student throughout life.”
When Sebastian arrived at Pomona from Miami, he knew he wanted to tell stories. What he didn’t yet know was how the College’s network of alumni, mentors, and career-development resources would help transform that ambition into reality.
Sebastian connected with Aditya Sood ’97, president of Lord Miller and executive producer of films including Deadpool and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. What began as a mentorship relationship led to a summer internship at Lord Miller. A stipend from Pomona’s Career Development Office and the Pomona College Internship Program (PCIP) helped make staying in California over the summer affordable.
The relationships and insights he gained continue to shape his career path today.
One insight from Sood has stayed with Sebastian: “If you are the most creative-minded person in a room full of business people—or the most business-minded person in a room full of creatives—you are indispensable.”
