Institute for Inclusive Excellence Workshops

Inclusive Teaching and Assessment at the Claremont Colleges (Fall 2023)

Sara Hollar, the Director of the 7C Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and Hector Sambolin, Jr., Associate Dean for Academic Success and Assessment for Pomona College’s Institute for Inclusive Excellence (IIE), cohosted and moderated a workshop titled: "Inclusive Teaching Faculty Panel: How do We Know It's Working?"

In this panel discussion, faculty members from across the Claremont Colleges shared the details of assessment projects they've embarked on, shedding light on the questions they initially had and how they successfully answered them. This event marks the beginning of a series of workshops by the CTL and IIE that will begin in Spring 2024.

After the Diversity Statement: Narrating Inclusive Excellence for your Next Steps (Fall 2023)

This workshop was a partnership between The Dean’s Office and the Institute for Inclusive Excellence. Welcoming all faculty (tenured, tenure-track, visiting) and staff, this meeting brought together participants from different departments, varying degrees in their career, and focused on these four areas:

  • Inclusive excellence at Pomona College, including its role in reappointment, promotion, and tenure.
  • The latest scholarship, terminology, and “state of the field” for inclusive pedagogy and praxis.
  • Findings as to how Pomona faculty understand and practice inclusive excellence.
  • Helpful prompts to encourage reflection about inclusive excellence and what it has meant to one’s personal teaching, research, and service.
