Technology Assistance Program: Laptop Program
Launching in Fall 2026, the Technology Assistance Program (TAP) is an Information Technology Services (ITS)-led pilot program created to ensure new eligible Pomona College first-year students have consistent access to reliable, academically capable technology. The initiative supports the College’s strategic priorities in digital equity and student success.
Eligible first-year and new transfer students will receive a notification from Pomona’s Office of Financial Aid letting them know that an Apple laptop will be issued to them. Each device is set up to meet Pomona College's academic, security, and technology standards. ITS will manage the setup process, onboarding, software and security updates, device tracking, and ongoing support throughout a student’s time at the College. After successfully graduating from the College, students can keep their laptop as part of the program’s long‑term support model of success after Pomona.
Objectives of the Program
- Ensure new students on institutional aid have the technology they need by providing a laptop to those who can’t afford one, removing financial barriers that impact academic work.
- Promote digital equity by offering laptops to students on institutional aid who don’t already have a reliable device.
- Support academic readiness by making sure students on institutional aid have a current, fully functional laptop that can run required software and meet course expectations.
Eligibility and Scope
The laptop program is currently operating as a limited pilot to new first-year and transfer students on Pomona College institutional aid. Eligible students will receive a notification from the financial aid office, and a follow-up email from ITS will detail the distribution logistics on move-in day.

What is the Pomona College Laptop Program?
The program provides eligible first-year and new transfer students on institutional aid with a brand-new college‑issued laptop for long‑term academic use, supporting digital equity and full participation in coursework.
Who is eligible to receive a laptop through this program?
New students starting at Pomona College in the fall of 2026 who receive institutional aid as part of their financial aid award are eligible for a new laptop. This group includes new domestic, international, and transfer students. Students are notified directly from the Pomona College Financial Aid Office if they are eligible. ITS does not decide who is eligible.

Not at first. The laptop is issued for use during the student's time at Pomona (including summers and breaks) and becomes yours after graduation if all academic and financial responsibilities are met.
What responsibilities do students have?
Students must use the laptop for academic work, keep it in good condition, follow ITS policies, arrange repairs when needed, and return the device to ITS located at the Cowart Building if they leave Pomona College before graduating.
What if the laptop is lost or stolen?
Students must immediately report the loss to ITS and Campus Safety. Understand that replacement costs may apply depending on circumstances.
What happens if I withdraw or take a leave?

Why is Pomona offering this program?
To ensure students with demonstrated need have reliable technology for coursework, research, and participation in the digital academic environment at the College.
