As 2023 comes to a close, we look back at some of the key moments and memories made possible by our Pomona College students, faculty and staff.

Several runners on Pomona-Pitzer’s men’s cross country team raced independently as first-year Sagehens at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic. As seniors this fall, they captured the program’s third NCAA title in four years.

When Ruben Murray ’19, wrote his senior thesis on the small East African country of Djibouti, the international relations major didn’t expect to end up there two years later as a foreign service officer for the U.S. State Department.

Diana Castellanos ’24 created the Plant Babysitters Club last year for Pomona students who needed someone to care for their plants during winter break. In its second year, nearly 40 faculty and staff have signed up to help.

Pomona College students studying in Paris and Edinburgh are among 96 Sagehens studying away from their home campus fall semester through the College's International and Domestic Programs Office. There is a resurgence of interest in off-campus study.

Zoë Batterman ’24 has been awarded the 2024 Alice T. Schafer Prize for Excellence in Mathematics by an Undergraduate Woman by the Association for Women in Mathematics.

Betsy Ding’s creativity can’t be contained. Earlier this semester, Ding applied for a Student Creativity Grant through The Hive to design and prepare a nine-course tasting menu dinner. 

SAT or ACT scores will no longer be required for applicants for first-year or transfer admission to Pomona College, though students may still choose to submit them. 

A recent $750,000 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) will help Eleanor Birrell explore privacy regulation that would require companies to handle personal information in the best interests of the people involved.
