If you are a Pomona College student who graduated from a middle school or high school from Taiwan, Mainland China, or Hong Kong that uses Chinese as the principal mode of instruction and you want to waive the foreign language requirement, please contact the Registrar. The Registrar can certify that you have fulfilled the language requirement after reviewing your middle school or high school transcript and diploma. You do not have to take the placement test. If you did not go to a Chinese-speaking junior high or middle school but have experience with the Chinese language, you must take and pass the Chin 51A final exam. Please contact Professor Yanshuo Zhang to schedule taking the 51A exam. A score of 4/5 on the Chinese AP exam or 6/7 on the Chinese IB exam also fulfills the language requirement. Please make sure that your scores are sent to the registrar and confirm that your language requirement has been fulfilled.
