Pomona College Aerial View

Pomona College launched a year-long initiative in 2025 to strengthen shared governance across the institution. This effort was facilitated by David Maxwell, senior fellow at the Association of Governing Boards (AGB), who brought deep expertise in helping colleges and universities align governance practices with mission and institutional values.

Purpose and Goals

The initiative examined the current state of shared governance at the College, identified areas for improved clarity, communication, and collaboration, and developed recommendations to support a more transparent and inclusive governance culture. The focus was on enhancing how trustees, faculty, staff, students, and senior leadership work together in support of the College’s long-term health and effectiveness.
