2020-2021 Exhibitions at the Chan Gallery

This past year the Chan Gallery saw a handful of virtual exhibitions for the first time as we were all working remotely worldwide. It was intense, productive, and exciting for us to learn new ways of showcasing works of art. In the fall, Alex Dean (PO’22), Ise Henriques Sharp (PO’21), and Scarlett Wang (PO’22) organized the Balance and Confetti and Broken Glass exhibitions, and, in the spring, Scarlett went on leave while Austin Kim (PO’23) joined us.

We hosted some virtual conversations with artists, curators, and attendees who participated in lively discussions about the artworks. Many of the shows this past year featured student works from across The Claremont Colleges, although, Kindling: Art and Environmentalist Awakenings reached out to the broader Claremont community to include works by local artists and faculty of the colleges.

All exhibitions are still live now, except for Confetti and Broken Glass, and you can view them from the Chan Gallery website. It was an excellent opportunity for all of us to engage in a digital realm, and we found that we might continue offering exhibitions online in addition to in-person going forward.
