International & Domestic Programs Advising

The International and Domestic Programs Office requires all students to meet with an advisor as part of their program research and application process. Our office provides students with tools to help them determine which program best suits their academic and personal goals. Our advisors also encourage students to tailor their preparation for off-campus study to their unique needs, goals, and interests. Students are expected to meet with an IDPO advisor and begin their petition/application at least two weeks in advance of the relevant deadline in order to ensure enough time for a successful application (which includes faculty approvals and at least one recommendation).

All students* interested in studying abroad must attend a Getting Started with the IDPO info session, or watch the “Getting Started with the IDPO” video series, in addition to completing a quiz and an advising form, prior to meeting with an international programs advisor. Domestic program and Global Gateways applicants do not need to attend an info session or complete the quiz; however, they must meet with an IDPO Advisor. Before scheduling an advising appointment, we ask students complete these steps:

  1. Please visit studyabroad.pomona.edu, log in with your Campus ID, and click the blue “advising” button on the right to access the quiz and form.
  2. After passing the quiz (if applicable) and filling out the International and Domestic Programs Advising Form, please email the IDPO to schedule an advising session for you to discuss your goals, available programs, the application process, and any questions you may have.

Students interested in submitting a petition for a program that is not on our approved list should research the program thoroughly before the meeting and be prepared to provide details during the advising session.

*Claremont Colleges Consortium students should follow the instructions for Students from Other Claremont Colleges.
