Stories of Sagehen Impact

Pomona College’s first-ever Student-Alumni merchandise design competition brought together Sagehens in a creative collaboration paying tribute to campus life and honoring the 60-year legacy of the Oldenborg Center.

Pomona College sophomore Jocelyn Cho ’28 reflects on life in Oldenborg and is surprised by how meaningful the language immersion became. After nearly a year there, saying goodbye feels bittersweet.

Guy Lohman ’71 was there when Pomona’s famous “Chirp!” took flight. Now, he is this year's Alumni Distinguished Service Award recipient, honoring his unheralded, selfless and direct service to the College over a sustained period of time.

Six outstanding Sagehens are being recognized for their professional achievements and longtime service to Pomona College by the Alumni Association Board. This year’s honorees will be presented with their awards during Alumni Weekend, April 30-May 3.

Pomona College hosted more than 300 students and their families April 13 for Admitted Students Day, providing an opportunity to connect to the College community and gain insights into life on campus.

A daily staple since the Oldenborg Center opened, the dining hall language tables have been serving up conversation and community for 60 years. 

While many of their peers took road trips or hit the beach over spring break, 11 Pomona sophomores visited industry sites throughout Los Angeles County and networked with alumni and other professionals.

Three years after striking out future Hall of Famer Mike Trout in his World Baseball Classic debut for Great Britain, Ryan Long ’21 returned to the international stage last month and threw two scoreless innings of relief.
