Manisha Goel, associate professor of economics, reflects on what makes Pomona students stand out, the importance of humility in learning and why philanthropy is essential to sustaining College programs that bear added riches for all.

The Asian Studies program has recognized seven Pomona College students for academic excellence this spring. Thanks to an anonymous gift, the program introduced six student prize awards to complement the Chanya Charles Butts ’90 Senior Thesis Prize.

When Dr. Richard Lee reflects on the arc of his career, he traces it back to his Pomona College professors. Now, as a world-traveling physician, educator and humanitarian, Dr. Lee is guiding the next generation of doctors in the same way.

Mark Feng P’24 saw how Pomona College shaped his son’s character. Now, he remains deeply connected to the College and gives back to the Pomona Annual Fund to ensure that future students experience the same transformative journey that his son did.

Pomona College’s broad and rigorous liberal arts curriculum has helped Ashley Simons ’18 succeed professionally. But, she says, it was a vector calculus class that unexpectedly changed her life.

Their disciplines range from biology to mathematics to linguistics to religious studies, and their participation in the Fulbright U.S. Student Program will take them abroad to study, conduct research or teach English.

Tori Agostini '20, an international relations major, has lived in Denmark the past three years while working for the freight forwarder Flexport. She was one of 150 Schwarzman Scholars chosen from nearly 5,000 applicants.

Johanna S. Hardin has been named the Hardison Chair of Analytical Thinking at Pomona College by vote of the College’s Board of Trustees on May 16. She joined the College in 2002 as an assistant professor of mathematics and statistics.

A change in Roofie Konshie '28's financial circumstances after her acceptance led her to contact Pomona's Financial Aid Office. The resulting revised financial aid package was instrumental in her decision to accept Pomona College's offer.
