These studies are reviewed by the IRB committee at a convened meeting. Full committee review is required for:
- Studies that entail more than minimal risk for the research subjects OR
- Studies that are minimal risk, but do not fit in an exempt or expedited review category.
Examples of studies requiring full committee review:
- Audio-video recorded interviews for which a breach of confidentiality could expose the interviewee to social, economic, legal, or other risk
- Randomized treatment studies
- Studies using investigational drugs and/or devices
- Behavioral studies involving risky interventions, observations of illegal behavior or very sensitive data/questions
- Studies focused on participants that are vulnerable populations such as prisoners, children, undocumented people, victims of traumatic experiences, etc.
