Welcome, New Students!
New Student Orientation is a week-long program to help new students settle in to life at Pomona College and help them get excited about their intellectual passions.
Orientation begins with Move-In Day when new students can move in, meet their sponsor groups, and families can attend information sessions. The next day, for students only, is for placement exams and information sessions, while Monday through Thursday, students leave campus for their exciting Orientation Adventure. Upon returning from OA, students will continue to learn about academic life at Pomona, meet with their advisors, enroll in courses, as well enjoy social and community-building activities.
A Note From Dean of Students Miriam Feldblum
The start of college is both exciting and a major adjustment for students and their families. We want to reassure you that we are here to help you with anything that may come up during this important time of transition.
Making friends and finding your place at Pomona is part of college life, and many meet their first friends here in their sponsor groups and Orientation Adventure trips. For others, finding another community or space on campus that meets your needs is also important, and our numerous student mentor groups play a great role in connecting new and older students.
Academic success is another question that may come up as you prepare for your first year. You should bear in mind that you have been selected in a very competitive process. Classes here will be more demanding than those in high school, and you will have to take more responsibility for completing the assignments, but you can and will do well. We offer Academic Support Services to help. The whole College looks forward to your arrival.
