Experiential History: Movement Upon Movement in the Weimar Republic

Berlin, Germany

This program will be led by Associate Professor of Dance John Pennington, Lecturer in Dance Diana Cummins, and Professor of German Friederike von Schwerin-High in summer 2026.

The program will explore the concept of movement, both physical and societal. Students will be introduced to the groundbreaking work of Rudolph Laban, whose influential movement analysis shaped the course of Ausdruckstanz (expressionistic dance). His theories will serve as a lens through which the program will examine the broader artistic and political landscape of the era, from Expressionism to Dadaism and the realism of New Objectivity.

Diplomacy and Human Rights in the Mediterranean

Brussels, Belgium; Tangier, Fes, and Rabat, Morocco

This program will be led by Associate Professor of Politics Mietek Boduszynski in summer 2026.

This immersive seminar explores the challenges facing those who would use the tools of diplomacy to promote democracy and human rights in Europe and North Africa. From migration to gender, and from elections to civil society, we will explore what democracy and human rights are, how diplomacy can promote them, and why the Mediterranean region provides a rich and complex context in which to observe the challenges of striving for a world in which more people can live in freedom and dignity.

Summer programs offered by Pomona College international and domestic program partners

The International & Domestic Programs Office does not maintain a list of approved summer programs, however we recommend that students begin their search with the program providers with whom we regularly work. These providers are among the most reputable in the field, with strong health and safety protocols, academic quality, and student services. Students apply directly to the program provider for summer programs (there is no Pomona College application) and work with the Registrar’s Office to discuss credit transfer. The Registrar’s Office also completes any required home school/advisor approval form for summer programs. Please email Registrar@pomona.edu with any questions regarding summer program credit and approval.

Many of our program partners offer need- and merit-based scholarships, and there are a number of other scholarship resources as well. Please refer to our Scholarships page for more information.
