Emerging Scholars Symposium

On Saturday, June 7th, 2025, the Claremont Colleges will host a one-day symposium for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from institutions in southern California.

The Associate Deans for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Faculty development at the Claremont Colleges invite your participation and welcome you to Claremont to explore faculty life at small liberal arts colleges. We will host workshops, clinics, and facilitated discussions about the transition from graduate school to the professoriate, the job search process, and teaching, researching, and thriving at small liberal arts colleges. You will also have an opportunity to showcase your research at the poster conference which will be held throughout the day.

The Claremont Colleges are committed to recruiting and retaining an excellent and diverse faculty. Clinics and panel discussions will cover these topics:

  • Applying for jobs at small liberal arts colleges (SLACs)—what is different about the CV, Cover Letter, Interviewing, Research and Teaching Statements?
  • Writing Inclusive Excellence Statements—what is inclusive excellence and what you should include.
  • The first years in the tenure-track as a new faculty member at a SLAC—the good and the challenging.
  • Inclusive pedagogy
  • Research and publishing at a SLAC

There will be a poster session so that you may present research while building ties with faculty across the Claremont Colleges.
