'Twas the night before deadline, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even my computer mouse;
The essay drafts were scattered 'cross the floor without care,
In hopes that inspiration soon would be there.
My siblings were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of taking over my bedroom danced in their heads;
And mamma in her jammies, and dad in his fleece onesie,
Had just settled down for a long winter snoozie.
When from my laptop there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.
Away to the outlet I stumbled in a daze,
Crashed into the wall and saw through a haze
My window was pierced by bright beams of the moon
That shone with a glare nearly bold as at noon.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a paper of silver with words all a smear.
With nouns, verbs and adjectives, lively and quick,
I knew for college admission, it would sure do the trick.
More rapid than Flash, I grabbed it in hand,
And whistled, and shouted and leaped up to stand.
Now, DASH! Now, DANCE! Now, PRANCE and MIX IN!
Time to type up this essay, it’s way more than fiction!
To the chair! To the desk! To the laptop and mouse!
Now dash away! Dash away! Let’s rattle this house!
I spoke not a word, but went straight to my work,
And filled all the app sections; then turned with a jerk,
And laying my finger aside of my nose,
And giving a nod, submitting it, I rose;
I sprang to my bed, to my pooch gave a whistle,
And away off to dreamland I zipped like a missile.
But I heard my old dog, whisper out in his slumber,
TO POMONA YOU WILL ALWAYS BE
WAY MORE THAN A NUMBER!
