Assistant Professor of Linguistics and Cognitive Science
The Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science at Pomona College invites applications for an Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2026. We are seeking candidates with expertise in phonetics, and we welcome candidates with additional expertise in other subfields of linguistics. Candidates will provide evidence of inclusive excellence in teaching, a productive record of research, and an ability to involve undergraduates in research. Candidates already at the rank of Assistant Professor are encouraged to apply. We are especially looking for candidates with a demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence in teaching/mentoring undergraduates and who are prepared to advise research projects for undergraduate students. The teaching load is two courses per semester, and professors are expected to maintain an active research program.

Assistant/Associate Professor of Theatre (Scenic Design)
The Department of Theatre at Pomona College, a private liberal arts college located in Southern California on the land of the Tongva, invites applications for an open rank Assistant or Associate Professor of Scenic Design to begin July 1, 2026. The individual holding this position is expected to design one production and teach three courses per academic year including but not limited to Introduction to Design, Scenic Design, Computer Aided Design, Introduction to Technical Theatre, Stagecraft and/or any course in the candidate’s specialty.
We seek educators who value collaboration and communication and who will elevate our courses in scenic design and theatre technology in ways that are relevant to the changing landscape of our field. We are looking for candidates who are excited to work in a liberal arts context, which includes supporting and collaborating with our technical staff, design students, administrative staff, and faculty. We are also eager for this position to offer insights and feedback about the feasibility of potential plays for upcoming seasons as part of the play selection process. We welcome candidates whose expertise in design might include any of the following approaches or modalities: sustainability; cognitive equity; accessibility; diasporic and/or international theatre; decolonizing, anti-ableist, and anti-racist praxis; site specific, immersive, event-based, non-traditional theatre; and multimedia. We are interested in candidates who are eager to be involved in the evolution of ethical, equitable, and inclusive educational practices.
Tenure expectations include: teaching excellence, a pattern of productive scholarship or creative arts research outside of the Department, and effective participation in service to the Department and College. All tenure track faculty in the Department participate in undergraduate advising and mentoring. Service activities appropriate to rank are also required and potential for future leadership service is an additional consideration.
The minimum requirement for this position at the Assistant level is: an M.F.A or a Ph.D. degree in hand at the start of the contract, July 1, 2026. For applicants at the assistant level, experience with college teaching (beyond graduate assistantships) and significant professional experience (over five years of cumulative work in the field) are preferred. As a department that produces four shows per year, we seek candidates who are interested in their professional leadership development. At the Associate level, candidates should have a Ph.D. and/or extensive practical design experience (over ten years of cumulative lead design experience in the field) and demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level. Applicants at the associate level should expect to lead the department within a few years of their hire; thus, demonstrated departmental leadership and/or administrative skills are also preferred.

The Intercollegiate Department of Africana Studies at the Claremont Colleges invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position. We seek a colleague who teaches and does scholarly work in the field of Africana Studies. The Department of Biology at Pomona College invites applications for two one-year Visiting Assistant Professor positions in organismal biology and/or ecological sciences beginning Fall 2026. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following areas: ecology, animal physiology, plant physiology, or animal behavior. Successful candidates will offer an upper-level elective course with laboratory in their above area of expertise during one semester, and in the other semester, teach in one of our introductory courses with laboratory (Introductory Genetics or Introductory Cell Biology).

The Theatre Department at Pomona College invites applications for a one-year, non-tenure track, Visiting Assistant Professor of Lighting Design. The individual holding the position is expected to teach 4 courses per academic year, including: Intro to Lighting Design, Intro to Technical Theatre, Lighting Technology, and Advanced Lighting Design, as well as design for one departmental show. A successful candidate would have experience in instructing students in new digital technologies and be abreast of current trends and practices within the field.
This faculty member will also supervise independent studies and/or senior projects in design as the need arises. While there is no expectation of ongoing scholarship or professional work outside the Department, such activities are encouraged as long as the individual clearly understands the full-time nature of the position and the expectation of advising students and participating actively in the life of the Department.
Essential Functions: The candidate must understand the goals of theatre education within the liberal arts mission of the College and embody these goals in their teaching.
